Stuttgart -
Stuttgart Arena
VfB Stuttgart - Atlético de Madrid 1-1
Champions League, 20 October 2026
For PSV fans like me who saw the 1988 European Champions Cup Final (on TV), the stadium in Stuttgart is wholy ground after winning the Cup there. So, no better occasion than a Champions League tie in this stadium that was fully rebuilt for the 2006 World Cup and today called Stuttgart Arena by the UEFA. My son and I did for the first time a groundhop trip with 2 matches in 3 days. On our way to Stuttgart we visited Karlsruhe as well. Our first day in Stuttgart we did a hike through the wine yards near Obertürkheim and a climb to the Württemberg top in the morning. In the afternoon we went to Stutgart City with the Schlossplatz. On this sunny day there was even room for a glass of beer on the terraces outside there. A traditional German meal ended the day. Matchday we started with cars where Stuttgart is famous for. We first went to the Porsche Museum and thereafter to the Mercedes-Benz Museum next to the MHP Arena. After a lovely dinner in a Turkish restaurant in the center of Bad Canstatt we could finally go to the match. The stadium was only 15 minutes walk from our hotel. We had a nice view near the corner flag and the away fans. There was a great vibe of a big European night in the stadium with a fantastic tifo/choreo showing all highlights of Stuttgart in the yellow colours of Baden-Württemberg. Die Schwaben played very well in the first half and deserved a 1-0 half time result. Within 2 minutes after the tea Argentine star Julian Alvarez scored the equalizer and Atléti became stronger. After a red car for the Spanish team Stuttgart tried to score the winning goal but they did not succeed. Nevertheless it was a great match and great evening despite the fact we had to stand up the whole match. "Stuttgart kommt, Stuttgart kommt".
