Deventer -
De Adelaarshorst
Go Ahead Eagles - FC Twente 1-4
Eredivisie, 8 March 2026
On this sunny day we went with our family for a day to Deventer. We parked our car in the neighbourhood of the stadium. Great to see that so many working class houses near the Vetkampstraat carried flags in yellow and red. A unique view that I have not seen anywhere else. De Adelaarshorst is situated right between the houses and built with bricks in a classic English style. For groundhoppers this is a must-see stadium in the Netherlands; for me it was one of the last Eredivisie stadium I have seen. Before the match we first went to the city center for a coffee where the terraces are full at the Brink. Today there is derby to be played in Deventer: not the IJsselderby (that's against PEC Zwolle) but against the largest club of Overijssel: FC Twente. With 17 degrees it is lovely whether early February. Unfortunately the home team, reigning cup winners, plays a disastrous match and the guest take a very easy 1-4 win. Only during 15 minutes, right after Eagles scores its goal the atmostphere is really good in the "Home of football". But that's too little and too late. After the rest of the family rejoins me after a nice visit of the city we can go home.
