Manchester United - PSV 3-1
Champions League, 18 October 2000
For my only European Away Day with PSV I went in 2000 together with someone from the same village as I come from to Manchester. We made the arrangement during the annual kermis fair a month earlier. In the early morning we go to Eindhoven Airport for the charter flight full of PSV fans to Manchester. We start our day in Manchester with a stadium tour and afterwards we go into the city center to drink some beers with the other PSV fans. Than we go into Old Trafford: Manchester United is the cup holder of the Champions League and plays with all the stars: Schmeichel, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Sheringham, Cole, Yorke etc. The away stand makes the most of the noice in the stadium. At least that is what I can remember but probably not the single truth. During a short phase in the second half PSV is on its way to a surprise but than the Red Devils go full speed ahead and score two goals. After the match we fly back to Amsterdam from where I can take the night train back to The Hague, where I live. Despite the loss it was a great experience.
