It is the first official match in the than called brand new Amsterdam Arena. Champions Ajax meet Cupwinner's PSV in the Super Cup called Johan Cruyff Schaal. PSV outclasses Ajax on this day. After years of success in Amsterdam this match is the symbol of the handover of the power in the Dutch Eredivisie to PSV. The team managed by Dick Advocaat with Belgian star Luc Nilis would have a number of successfull seasons.
