In 2012 I worked for an American company with its European headquarters and shared service center in Barcelona. Just before I had to go there again, I discovered that El Clásico was being played in Camp Nou at the moment of my visit. Because it was Copa del Rey it was possible to get a ticket in the free sale. It was not difficult to convince our Irish vice president to go together. We took a hamburger in our hotel in Cornella de Llobregat and went to Camp Nou. After some fouls in the first leg of this cup match in Madrid, Portuguese defender Pepe is being booed all game by the Catalan public. Lionel Messi leads his team to a 2-0 lead in the first half. But the other world star Cristiano Ronaldo makes it exciting. Barca is lucky with the 2-2 draw which is enough after the 2-1 win in the home game to go to the next round. With a crowd of 95,000 this is the match with the highest attendance I ever visited. The atmosphere was much better than many years before when I was in Camp Nou as well. The guests from Madrid are hated in Catalunya, Pepe and José Mourinho the most.
