Nijmegen -
De Goffert
NEC - Fortuna Sittard 2-3
Eredivisie, 28 February 2026
De Goffert was for many years not a stadium many fans wanted to visit due to the cycle track in the stadium and the fact that NEC was a grey mouse with a boring image. After the reconstruction of the stadium it has become cosy. The pitch is dug by hand in the beginning of the 20st century (that is why it was called the bloedkuul / blood pit). The stadium is situated in the green Goffert park which means that you can always have a great walk towards the stadium. Despite it was only one hour drive from where I lived I never was in De Goffert until 2026 before. This year NEC is competing with Ajax and Feyenoord for champions league tickets with great attacking football. On this day that is not the case: they struggle with the defensive style of Fortuna who scores twice from a standard situation and with a great action of former talent Mohammed Ihattaren. My son and I personally met him in 2019 at the Herdgang in Eindhoven when he was one of the biggest talents of our country. Many years and many clubs later he shows his talent rarely. But today he is the Man of the Match. And the Goffert? The atmosphere was good and relaxed despite the loss.
